drivetrain
We call anything that transmits force from your foot to the contact patch of the rear wheel on the ground "drivetrain".
Usually, this is the way it flows:
- foot -> pedal
- pedal -> crank
- crank -> chainring
- chainring -> chain
- chain -> rear cog
- rear cog -> hub
- hub -> spoke
- spoke -> rim
- rim -> tire

The chain transmits force from the rider pedaling a crankset to the cassette or freewheel of a rolling rear wheel. |
Cassettes are groupings of incrementally-sized cogs that receive force via the chain and transmit that force to the rear wheel via a freehub body. |
Idler pulleys are used to redirect the power or return chain through the frame of a cycle. |
We strongly encourage recumbent trike riders to CLIP IN! To that end, we carry a complete lineup of clip-in pedals for all needs and budgets. |
